Stella Katherine Cole
Jazz Coterie live music concert series presents skyrocketing star singer Stella Cole at our pop-up jazz club in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. With Michael Kanan on piano, Mikey Migliore on bass, and Hank Allen-Barfield on drums.
Could it be . . . Judy Garland incarnate?
New York City’s hottest new musical sensation right now is undoubtedly Stella Katherine Cole. She’s grabbed the attention of Michael Bublé, James Taylor, Meghan Trainor, and Miley Cyrus… not to mention Broadway legends like Betty Buckley, Stephanie J Block, and Donna Murphy. And if that isn’t enough, she’s racked-up way over a million followers and a gazillion “loves” with her infectious covers of Sara Vaughan, Julie Andrews, Ella Fitzgerald, and other classic favorites that she brings to a new audience of eager listeners.
Stella is part of this younger generation herself, having just graduated from Northwestern University in 2021 with a degree in theatre and international relations. She is currently a student of Tony Award®–winning vocal coach Joan Lader (Cynthia Erivo, Madonna, Patti LuPone, Sutton Foster) and La Tanya Hall (collaborator of Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, and Diana Ross).
Stella first fell in love with the Great American Songbook as a toddler, transfixed by movies like The Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St. Louis, and Singin’ in the Rain. These old movie musicals and their stars continue to impact her work today. Her biggest inspirations are Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand, two powerhouse performers who straddled the world of jazz, musical theatre, and popular music.
Stella has performed at New York’s iconic venues such as Dizzy’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, 54 Below, Town Hall, Mezzrow, and the Cafe Carlyle. She has toured the country with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) and collaborated on a jazzy cover of “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. The music video has already racked up over 6 million views. Ms. Cole is currently blowing up the scene in London and Paris.
Fans rejoice! Stella is recording her highly anticipated debut studio album this summer with none other than Samara Joy’s producer Matt Pierson. Featuring songs made famous by everyone from Barbra Streisand (“When the Sun Comes Out”) and Judy Garland (“The Boy Next Door” and a classic re-interpretation of “Over the Rainbow”) to Billie Eilish (“My Future”) and Audrey Hepburn (“Moon River” of course!), it is sure to be one of the most impressive vocal recordings of 2024.
Stepping into the spotlight of New York’s jazz scene might be daunting to some, but Stella has proven that she is ready stake her claim in the ever-changing, live music landscape and follow in the footsteps of inspirational artists that have come before her.
Don’t miss your chance to catch this sky-rocketing star!
