Lexie Lakmann is somewhat of a lexicon...already singing in all sorts of genres at the ripe old age of nothing! As part of our commitment to incubating talent, we’re excited to showcase this rising star.
Miss Lakmann is a choral education and jazz studies major at UW-Stevens Point. But don’t let the “student” moniker fool you...she swings like a seasoned “Sassy."
Lexie is fresh from a win at the 44th Annual Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards in the category of Vocal Jazz Soloist – Undergraduate College Outstanding Performance.
Tonight she’ll be swinging with Mathew Buchman (Director of Jazz Studies at UWSP) on piano, Lucas Fisher on drums, and freshman Jessie Crandall on bass. And, there might even be a horn thrown into the mix!
Born in La Crosse of a musical family, she's sung with the La Crosse Concert Band and performed various other gigs (under parental supervision, of course). This bright young lady has been featured with Meade St. Collective in Appleton, Central Wisconsin Jazz Ensemble at the Riverfront Jazz Festival, and she's the lead singer in the Wausau-based cover band, The 3’s & 7’s.
Don’t miss a rare opportunity to catch this comet as she passes through our firmament.
